Altered Baby Shoe Turned Picture Holder

altered baby shoe picture holder

Is this the cutest thing ever?  I can't even stand it!  I was going to use it in Baby M's new room, but it sold this week in my Etsy shop.  I will just have to make a new one.  When my husband's grandmother moved to the nursing home from the home she lived in for most of her married life, I brought home trucks full of awesome vintage finds.  She, like many people from her generation who lived through the Great Depression, did not get rid of much over the years so the house was full of great things.  Among the vintage baby clothes was several pairs of traditional baby shoes.  I have seen many pin cushions made from these but I wanted something a little more useful.  A picture holder is what I came up with.

I love choosing all the add-on's to make them just right.  They would look great in a shabby chic nursery (or little girl's room).

T-shirt Bibs

Does your husband/significant other hoard old t-shirts?  Mine does and I swear they reproduce in the drawers or something.  I can clean them out and before you know it, the drawer is filled to capacity again.  I was shopping one night and found this book with 120 ways to transform a t-shirt and bought it straight away!

I have tried a few things in the book and when I saw the idea for baby bibs, I was sold!  Here are a few that I have made.

don't have a cow tshirt bib

This one is from one of my daughter's old t-shirts.  I added some vintage fabric I had to this one.

floral and zebra tshirt bib

This was more of my daughter's shirts.  The zebra print was a turtleneck that she REFUSED to wear!  I love how this one turned out.

irish pub tshirt bib

This was one of my husband's t-shirts that shrunk in the dresser so it made a super cute bib with the coordinating plaid fabric.

This was another of my t-shirts that was my favorite before I splashed chlorine on it while adding to the pool.  It made a neat bib though!

No t-shirt is safe in this house anymore!  I am linking to Frugal Friday Link Party @ The Shabby Nest and Flaunt it Friday @ Chic on a Shoestring and Link Party Palooza @ Tator Tots and Jello.

Upcycled Little Girl's Dress

I know I have said it before, but I LOVE to reuse old clothes. As I was perusing Pinterest one night looking at shabby chic birthday party ideas, I kept seeing the cutest outfits on the little cuties with denim and lace.  I knew I was going to have to try my hand at one.  I have been saving old jeans with the intent of making a denim quilt one day.  That day will probably never come, so I cut into a pair of lightweight jeans and paired it with some lace I had and this vintage dress lining that was sitting in my stash and some great old buttons.

I am not 100% thrilled with how it turned out.  I think the skirt needs to be bigger and gathered more but I mean, it is Denim and Lace!

Thanks for looking!

Vintage Pillowcase Dress or Nightgown

I participated in a flea market a month or so ago for the second year now. I decided this year to focus on my pillowcase dresses. These are what started me sewing again after many years off. I just love the idea of making something beautiful and useful from something long forgotten. Like all those old bed linens that have been cast aside and sent to auctions or garage sales. Some of which have been embellished by hand with intricate embroidery work. To be able to breath new life into them and see them as adorable dresses on little girls is amazing to me. I have a crap ton a few old bed linens just waiting to be made new again. As I started sorting through them and matching them with fabric and ribbon, I noticed I had quite a few solid color and some prints that just seemed to "pillowcasey" to me made into a dress so I decided to make some nightgowns too. Lets face it, they just don't make pillowcases like that anymore. The fabric just gets softer the more you wash it and it just screams pj's to me! Here are just a few of the ones I made (that didn't sell, because of course I forgot to take pics of all of them):
